This settee marked a turning point in my work as a chair maker.
I was inspired to build this settee years before I had the technical ability to realize the design. A small sketch of it stayed in my notebook and an especially large piece of pine sat waiting for me to become fluent in building with curves. When I was invited to enter a piece in a show called "The Seats of New York" focusing on New York chair makers, I decided the time had come. Many of the shapes and methods of work that I'd be developing for years came together while building this settee, including the color, which is the same as the very first chair I built.
